Lawrence Committee Welcome Sept. ’23

Welcome to and welcome back to Lawrence! We hope everyone had a great summer. Below is a list of resources and guidelines that will help both new and old residents get (re)acquainted with the Lawrence community.

Resources

  • The Lawrence Committee is an annually elected body of residents that interfaces with University administration and pursues small improvements to the complex. The Committee hosts a Town Hall meeting once a month to discuss issues relevant to the Lawrence community. Lawrence residents are welcome to join these meetings and a meeting invite for the September Town Hall will be shared with residents soon.
  • This website contains a plethora of information on topics relevant to residents (e.g., internet, mail, laundry, common areas, etc.). There is also a useful FAQ page we highly recommend all residents browse.
  • If you have any issues in your apartment (e.g., appliance repairs, lighting repairs, pests, etc.), you should contact Facilities. Instructions on how to submit a work order to Facilities can be found here.
  • If you have immediate safety needs (especially during off hours), you should contact Public Safety at 609-258-1000.
  • Students can direct select high-value packages to be delivered to the Frist Center. Instructions on how to use this service can be found here.
  • The Lawrence Committee maintains a spouse listserv in addition to the student Lawrence apartments listserv maintained by the Housing Office. If you are a family member of a student who wishes to receive Committee emails, instructions on how to join the listserv can be found here.
  • Residents are encouraged to join the GSG Slack channel, which is useful to connect with other members of the Princeton community.
  • Lawrence has several common spaces for both working and socializing in buildings 1 and 14. The building 14 common room also contains a digital piano.
  • Lawrence has a garden located next to building 14 which contains private plots maintained by residents as well as community plots maintained by all gardeners. Look out for future events that the Committee will host in conjunction with the garden. More information on the garden can be found here.

Community Guidelines

  • Don’t leave personal items in the building hallways (i.e. garbage, recycling, bicycles, furniture, etc.).
  • Smoking inside is strictly prohibited by state law and Princeton University policy. If you wish to smoke outside, you must be a minimum of 25 feet away from any buildings.
  • Be respectful of common spaces. In laundry rooms, wipe debris out of washing machines and remove lint from dryers after each use. If you use the toys/games available in the Lawrence common rooms, make sure you clean up before you leave.
  • Dogs must be kept on leashes around Lawrence. Please also pick up after your dog.
  • Lawrence is adjacent to a golf course which has sometimes led to golf balls being hit onto Lawrence apartment lawns and walkways. The Committee has discussed the severity of the issue with the University and we ask that residents stay alert. You can report instances of golf balls on the complex in this golf ball reporting google form.

A couple members of the Lawrence Committee will be tabling at the Lawrence Welcome BBQ on September 14th if you would like to stop by and say hello.

Best,

The Lawrence Committee
