On May 12, 2022 the Lawrence Committee held its monthly town hall meeting. The following are the minutes of that meeting.
- The Lawrence Pool party has a date change — it will now be on Saturday June 11 from 3-7 PM at the Nassau Swim Club.
- Housing, GHAB, and the Graduate School have approved an eighth position with housing priority for the Lawrence Committee! We will have a Garden Events Manager!
- The committee is looking at getting yoga classes at Lawrence during the summer.
- Tigerwell suggested that the committee reach out to CampusRec for funding.
- For the time being, the committee will have to fund yoga out of pocket.
- The committee is tentatively thinking of doing yoga on Wednesdays at 3 PM starting June 2 for six weeks.
- The committee is concerned about attendance issues due to summer break, so please reach out if you or residents you know may be interested.
- The committee is aware that someone has continued leaving bags of dog poop on the floor in the men’s bathroom on the first floor of Building 1. The Committee would like to reiterate that this is unacceptable.
- The committee discussed at length finding ways to ensure secure package delivery.
- The University is in general opposed to introducing security cameras to the campus in order to respect the privacy of university members and the community.
- Some residents have also expressed that introduction of some surveillance into the University can lead to a slippery slope in terms of privacy violations in future years.
- The ER Chair may speak to GSG about investing in package lockers.
- For now, we suggest that residents who are receiving important packages ship them to their department on campus.
- The committee will continue to brainstorm ways to prevent package theft while still respecting residents’ privacy and the constraints the committee works in.
- The committee is still searching for a better piano to replace the one in building 14.
- The committee is looking at ways to ease access to the Lawrence listserv for spouses
- A few years ago, there was a way for spouses to get housing emails. However, due to complaints that people were getting too many emails, so Housing stopped doing this.
- The secretary will speak to Kevin to see if there’s a streamlined way to open access to the “lawrence-res” listserv.
- The Lawrence Secretary will scour the OIT website for a writeup on how to use the computer room’s copy machine.
- The Grad Student Housing Survey will be live starting in June. Feedback is very useful, so please feel this out if you have questions, comments, or suggestions for housing.
- For the duration of the summer break, the Committee will not be holding town halls or auxiliary meetings. However, please reach out to us with any questions.
